All Hinton Instruments' MIDIX Routing Matrices have MIDI Recall capability. All MIDI equipment connected to the matrix that responds to System Exclusive Dump Requests will be able to be restored at a later time. The MIDI Recall operation consists of sending one Script file from a computer via RS232 or RS422 and saving the Dump file returned. The equipment may be returned to its previous state simply by sending back the Dump file to MIDIX. Both files are in ASCII and may be stored and edited on a personal computer. The only requirements of the computer are that it has RS232 communications from at least 9600Bd and enough disk capacity for the dumps.

MIDI Recall Dumps may be transferred by laptop, floppy disk or email to any studio with a MIDIX. The MIDI Recall protocol has been designed to be suitable for integrating with console automation systems as well as stand alone use. There is not really much point in recalling a console's cue sends and returns unless all the outboard equipment may be restored as well.

To create a MIDI Recall Script save any of the following ASCII files as text (not html). We suggest that these are kept as .REQ file types. Create a new file with a text editor and copy each separate .REQ file into it. If there are multiples of certain equipment there must be corresponding copies. Next, edit for the actual MIDIX Input and Output numbers that the equipment is used on and save the whole file. Whenever a MIDI Recall is needed send this file to MIDIX.

Recommended text editors for various platforms are:

Wordprocessors or anything written by Microsoft should be avoided.

The following terminal emulators are suitable for MIDI Recall use and also remotely controlling a MIDIX in VT100 mode:

Signal Processing Units with MIDI Dumps

Synthesizers and Samplers

Any of the equipment listed above that is not yet a link indicates that the data is under preparation.

By definition, this list is endless. Most equipment has the relevant information buried somewhere in its manual, but often System Exclusive details are omitted. If you have trouble finding or deciphering the necessary information please inform us and we will add it to this page.
