The new Neutrik Silent plugs allow a cable to be pluged or unplugged from a guitar without the usual pop or buzz. The silent jack plug should only be used with normal guitars (at the guitar end). They are NOT for use with certain guitars with active outputs, guitars that have TRS outputs, or guitar amplifier to loudspeaker connections.
Two types of cables are available: a standard version for performance use with guitar amplifiers, and a special noise-cancelling TRS cable for recording applications where balanced DI inputs are used. Many modern microphone amplifiers now have an instrument DI jack, which is most probably balanced, and using a normal guitar cable negates the cancellation of interference which may be picked up on the cable.
