Standard Silent Guitar Cables

This is a balanced recording cable for use with microphone amplifiers which have balanced direct instrument inputs. Some modern microphone amplifiers are capable of cancelling noise and interference that is picked up by the cable, but this capability is lost when an unbalanced cable and plug are used.

To find out if your DI jack is balanced, insert a plug into the jack and count the number of clicks as it goes in. It will either be two or three. If there are only two, it is definitely unbalanced, and you will need to use the standard cable. If three, it is most likely a balanced input which will give better performance with this cable, but you should consult the manufacturer’s documentation or ask us to be sure. Microphone amplifiers with balanced DI inputs include: Amek, Focusrite, Grace Designs, and Rupert Neve Designs. Unbalanced DI inputs are used by API, Audient, Avalon, SSL, and UA.

The new Neutrik Silent plugs allow a cable to be plugged or unplugged from a guitar or other instrument without the usual pop or buzz. These plugs incorporate a reed switch which mutes the signal automatically whenever the cable is unplugged, allowing instrument changes to be made without turning down or muting the signal first. The switch is sealed and operated magnetically, and is guaranteed for 10,000 operations.

Our professional instrument cables are available in a range of colours, with a choice of a straight or right angle Silent plug at the guitar end (the destination end is a straight plug). Other lengths and custom options are available on request—please let us know your requirements using the quotation form.

We also offer a standard version of this cable for performance use with a guitar amplifier.

The Silent plug should only be used with normal guitars (at the guitar end). They are NOT for use with certain guitars that have TRS outputs, or guitar amplifier to loudspeaker connections. If in doubt, please ask us.
